Amazon River Mission Trip Recap

Our team has been back from the Amazon for a couple of weeks now and are settling back into our lives, but for us and so many villagers along the Amazon, life will never be the same. What a feeling it is to walk into a village and hear, "I've been praying someone would come tell me about Jesus."

We visited three villages along the river – Sao Benedito, Castanhal, and Doce. During our time there, we saw 321 patients in medical and pharmacy, extracted teeth from 136 patients, and gave the ability to read to 257 villagers. We were able to encourage over 70 ladies and 105 men through our Women’s and Men’s Ministries and had 113 children participate in VBS. We distributed 112 family bags filled with donations and were able to provide a water well to the village of Doce. Most importantly, our team saw hundreds of villagers come to Christ! Praise God!

God brought together an incredible team that included First Baptist Rogers church members, people from other local churches, and people from other states and countries. Truly a representation of the Global Church! He used each person in a special way, from sharing our testimonies to using our skills and strengths to help the villages. One team member alone built a ramp for a wheelchair-bound woman, fixed a villages’ electricity, and made a swing for the children in each village. We also had a 95-year-old gentleman on our team. He spent his days in the villages going home-to-home sharing the gospel and prayed with over 50 people about their salvation through Jesus.

I went to the Amazon to serve and love on the people of the villages but was afraid to share my own story. I had never done that before. Through the encouragement of our team, I built up the courage to share my story in the last village and several times since. God used me and my testimony to work in the lives of women in the Amazon, but He also used all the "marias" to change me. I will always be grateful for my time in Brazil and cannot wait to go back.
